Every year in MAY at Holy Corner, Edinburgh
The Booksale runs every May during Christian Aid Week. In 2018 the dates were
Saturday 12th May to Saturday 19th May
The Booksale committee are very grateful to Morningside United Church who give us the use of the church sanctuary for a total of over three weeks, allowing us to set up the sale, open to the public for a whole week, and clear it all away. They also allow us to use part of the church basement for book storage and sorting all year round. It’s largely thanks to them that we make as much as we do. Other local churches are also involved in the organisation planning and running of the event.
In 2018 the total amount donated to Christian Aid by the Holy Corner Christian Aid Committee including the Booksale and other fundraising such as the house-to-house collection, and after deduction of expenses, was £15,356, much the same as last year’s.
GOOD QUALITY BOOKS FOR NEXT YEAR
We are not yet actively collecting books for the 2019 sale. However, if you have a collection of good quality material and you’d like to donate it, you can deliver books on Monday or Thursday between 10 and 12 to the side door of Morningside United Church, in Chamberlain Road. If you ring someone will help you, or you may leave books in the porch. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE BOOKS OUTSIDE IF THE OUTER DOOR IS CLOSED.
We also take CDs, DVDs, but not tapes or vinyl records. We do not accept magazines.
If you are unable to deliver please Contact Us and we will try to arrange a pick up.
VOLUNTEERS FOR NEXT YEAR
The Booksale is run entirely by volunteers. We always welcome new volunteers for sorting, pricing, setting up, and various tasks during the week of the sale and the previous two weeks. For details of how to volunteer see our Volunteering page and for any other information about the Booksale Contact Us.
The Booksale is hosted by Morningside United Church, 15 Chamberlain Road, Morningside, Edinburgh EH10 4DJ. Website: http://www.morningsideunitedchurch.org.uk/ . Other local churches are also involved.
The proceeds are wholly donated to Christian Aid, which is a charity registered in Scotland (SC039150) and in England and Wales (1105851).
